This month, I’ve been working on improving my writing skills by taking a Professional Writing course from Full Sail University. It was a curriculum with familiar yet challenging content, and I’ve learned a lot from the invaluable lessons and feedback from the course and it’s instructor – Joana Lincoln. Two types of writing that I particularly enjoyed working on were both technical ( Audience evaluation and Professional Research )

I definitely learned a lot of information , from professional standards in literacy, to persuasive communication skills, that will be useful in numerous situations – from writing articles for my publication, creating EPKs for artists, or  drafting press releases and public statements for companies in the music industry.

Writing my Complaint letter was challenging but I appreciate the feedback I received from my instructor in that particular assignment .Were I initially thought I covered all the bases in the letter, when Mrs. Lincoln said,” I appreciate you reaching out. Why was the computer brought in in the first place? Think carefully about the information in your message and how it aligns with the requirements of specificity and detail.” This level of feedback gave me the clarity needed to improve the structure of my letter. The Complaint and Response Letters were the two most challenging assignments for this course.
The most useful skill set I learned throughout the course is how to make the best use of Generative AI while not violating the ethical and legal boundaries of Professional Writing, like plagiarism.

All in all, completing this course has strengthened my weaknesses in writing, particularly in the areas that cover  technical industry standards and Professional Formatting. Completing this course, I’m left with an invigorated sense of confidence in my ability to convey my thoughts in a more concise and credible manner in my writing. I’m looking forward to further self development from similar lessons in  my remaining courses, on the path to completing my Bachelors. Only one year remaining!
